Here’s a quick (and downloadable) one-page chart of SWVG groups and contacts for each (updated April 2023)

  • Activities for asylum-seekers(updated July 2020)
  • The Campaigning Group promotes and publicises asylum issues. (updated June 2019)
  • The Communications Group is responsible for internal and external SWVG communications – digital (website, Facebook, Twitter), newsletter; print (brochure, leaflets); and infrastrcuture (banner and flag, information storage, photographs, zoom etc) (updated April 2023)
  • Co-ordination Team.
  • The Events Group organises events to raise funds for SWVG and to raise awareness. (updated June 2020)
  • The Friday team  at the drop-in centre at AMC (the Avenue Multicultural Centre) every Friday morning in Southampton organise initial assessments for each newly referred asylum seeker, appoint visitors, monitor developments and respond to problems. 
  • The Grant Fundraising Group  applies for grants and manages donations. 
  • The Money Allocation Group (MAG) administers ASSIST funds. It also co-ordinates Legal Justice work .
  • Outreach organises talks and attends events to raise awareness of asylum and refugee issues, and the work of SWVG.  It needs a new Coordinator. If you might be interested, please get int ouch with a trustee, or David Rees.
  • Support Groups for visitors. Tell your suport group convenor if you want to join the Visitors’  WhatsApp Group.
  • The Teaching Group offers tuition in English language, literacy and other basic skills to adult asylum seekers and refugees who are not able to benefit from other language classes or who need extra help. They prioritise people who cannot read or who have a very low level of English. (updated Jan 2020). To join the Teachers’ WhatsApp Group send your number to Catherine Hartley.
  • The Training Group organises learning activities for potential, new and existing SWVG members. We need more SWVG members to join this group.  If you might be interested, please contact Hazel Inskip.
  • The Trustees (in the past sometimes informally referred to as the Exec Group). (updated Jan 2023)
