Active listening

The components of active listening

  1. The listener gives the speaker their full attention.
  2. The listener gives the speaker signs that they are listening through body language and voice.
  3. The listener summarises elements of what they have heard, reflecting both content and feelings.
  4. The listener then asks an open-ended question (e.g. ‘How…’, ‘What…’) about what they have heard.
