The components of active listening
- The listener gives the speaker their full attention.
- The listener gives the speaker signs that they are listening through body language and voice.
- The listener summarises elements of what they have heard, reflecting both content and feelings.
- The listener then asks an open-ended question (e.g. ‘How…’, ‘What…’) about what they have heard.
